Malaysia's July industrial output declines at slow rate

Malaysia's July industrial output declined at the slowest rate since last November year-on-year and recorded a marked improved performance month-on-month. The Statistics Department said the industrial production index (IPI) in July decreased 8.4% compared with July 2008 following a 9.5% (revised) drop year-on-year in June.T he drop in July was due to decreases in two indices: manufacturing (12%) and mining (1.9%), although the electricity index rose 3.1%.Month-on-month, the IPI increased 7.1%. The cumulative index for January to July, however, declined 12% against the same period last year.
